Week 8 of pregnancy (First Trimester)

You:

At 8 weeks you can have your first antenatal check up, use this as an opportunity to discuss any problems or worries you have about your pregnancy. You probably won’t have gained much weight yet, but your breasts will definitely be looking a little bigger! Not as noticeable, but your blood volume is also increasing, by the time you give birth you’ll have 45 – 50 per cent more blood in your veins, this increase supports your baby. The downside of this extra blood is the that it can make you more prone to varicose veins and piles. By 8 weeks you might also be experiencing full-blown morning sickness and some cramping due to the fact that your uterus is now the size of an orange!

Your baby:

Congratulations, your embryo is now officially a foetus. Its tiny little tail will be disappearing and it will be constantly moving and shifting, although you won’t be able to feel anything for another few weeks. The arms will have grown and the hands will now be flexed at the wrist and positioned to meet over the heart. The babies legs will also be getting longer and the feet might even be big enough by now to meet in front of the body.
